How to configure pfsense for Hyper-V

firewallhow-tohyper-vpfsensevirtualbox

I was going to explain how I had configured the VM for for Hyper-V but a quick search revealed that someone else had done my work for me. smiley

This is almost exactly what I did except on Windows Server 2012R2.

If you inted to actually use the VM as a router/firewall then there are a couple of extra steps.

You will need 2 legacy network adapters and two virtual switches and two physical network cards in the host. When you create the modem switch for the NIC card connected to your modem make sure you uncheck the allow managment operating system to share this network adapter box. This will provide the seperation required for the firewall to work properly. Incidentaly to acomplish the same seperation using VirtualBox you would change the properties of the physical network adapter on the host, removing everything except the VirtualBox VM entry.

When you install pfsense you do not need to configure VLANS you configure the to NICs exactly as you would on a physical box to create a router/firewall
